The Origins of Swahili Language

Swahili is  a popular language spoken predominately in Kenya and Tanzania though other African countries like Democratic Republic of Congo, Uganda, Mozambique and Comoros Islands also speak the language but to a limited level.
Swahili is recognized as a national language in Kenya and Tanzania.

When one says Swahili or Kiswahili this means the same. Actually the origin of Swahili language is a mixture of Arabic and African languages. Swahili has a few borrowed words from other languages such as Portuguese, German, French and English. For example when you land in the city of Nairobi, the most spoken language in the City and the suburbs is Swahili.
This language is more popular in the coastal towns of Kenya such as Mombasa, Malinda, Lamu etc. In Mombasa, a city in Kenya's coast area we have people who actually are called Swahili people. This is their native language and any other languages they may speak is learned later is life.

In East Africa, Tanzania is considered the home of Swahili language. They have more command and master of the language. No wonder that it is considered the national as well as the official language.

Swahili is a language that is easy to learn as well. This can be attested by the way the Movie Lion King was able to borrow some Swahili language words with ease such as Hakuna Matata etc. Also the late Fadhili William, a Kenyan composed some music in Swahili by the name Malaika (Angel) early in 1980. This song became a hit and was quickly copied in other countries and reproduced by Boney M group, still using the same original swahili words.
